Bandwidth above 1 Gbps per device enables high-resolution video streams from multiple inspection cameras to be transmitted wirelessly to centralized AI inference servers without local processing hardware at each camera. This shifts inspection system architecture: instead of an industrial PC at each inspection station, a centralized GPU server handles all inference, with 5G as the backhaul. Connection density — 5G supports over 1 million devices per square kilometer — matters for smart factory environments with hundreds of sensors per production bay. Edge AI combined with 5G is the current development direction. Rather than sending all inspection data to a central server, edge AI processes the high-bandwidth camera streams locally and sends only structured events — defect type, location, severity score — over 5G.
