Dobot Atom and Hong Kong IPO: From Cobots to Humanoids in One Listed Company

Dobot is not a startup. Founded in 2015, the company has shipped over 72,000 robots to customers in more than 80 countries, making it one of the most widely deployed Chinese cobot manufacturers in the world. Its December 2024 Hong Kong IPO raised HK$87 million ($11.2 million), listing on the Growth Enterprise Market. The March 2025 announcement of Atom, Dobot’s first humanoid robot, represents a strategic expansion from collaborative robots into embodied AI. Understanding Dobot’s cobot foundation helps explain what Atom is designed to do and why the company’s commercial relationships matter for humanoid market development.

Dobot Cobot Foundation

Dobot’s core business is collaborative robot arms, 4-axis, 6-axis, and 7-axis cobots in payload ranges from 3 kg to 16 kg, priced from CNY 30,000 ($4,100) to CNY 150,000 ($20,600). More than 72,000 units deployed in electronics manufacturing, education, medical devices, logistics, and food processing across 80+ countries. The product lineup in early 2026: CR3 (3 kg payload, CNY 30,000), CR5 (5 kg, CNY 45,000), CR10 (10 kg, CNY 80,000), CR16 (16 kg, CNY 120,000). Dobot also sells the MG400 (desktop cobot, CNY 12,000-18,000), the most affordable collaborative robot in its category. This pricing has driven education and SME adoption at scale, building a global installed base that few Chinese robot companies match.

Atom Humanoid: First Announcement

Dobot announced Atom in March 2025, full specifications have not been publicly disclosed. From available information: Atom is a full-size bipedal humanoid with dexterous hands, designed for integration with Dobot’s existing cobot software sector. The design intent appears to be a humanoid that factory customers already using Dobot cobots can deploy with minimal new software integration, Atom running the same task programming interface as existing Dobot arms. This would give Dobot a significant advantage with its existing installed base of 72,000 robots: current customers are already trained on Dobot’s programming environment.

Hong Kong IPO Details

Dobot filed for Hong Kong GEM (Growth Enterprise Market) listing in late 2024 and completed the IPO in December 2024 at HK$87 million ($11.2 million). This is a small IPO by main board standards, the GEM is designed for growth-stage companies. For Dobot, the listing provides public capital access for the Atom development program and R&D expansion, transparent financial reporting that supports international customer confidence, and currency for potential acquisitions in the humanoid technology space. Dobot is one of a cohort of Chinese industrial robotics companies listing on HK in 2024-2026 alongside Han’s Robot, Huayan Robotics, and Estun in a secondary listing.

Global Distribution Advantage

Dobot’s 80+ country distribution network is an asset that humanoid-only companies cannot easily replicate. When Atom enters commercial deployment, Dobot can sell it through existing relationships with system integrators, distributors, and end customers in Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Most Chinese humanoid companies are domestically focused in 2025-2026. Dobot’s international infrastructure positions Atom as potentially the first Chinese humanoid robot with a genuine global commercial distribution path. This is strategically significant: the humanoid market outside China is largely unpenetrated by Chinese companies, and first-mover distribution relationships will matter enormously as the market develops.

Competitive Position

Dobot does not compete with AgiBot, Unitree, or UBTECH on technical specifications, Atom has not yet demonstrated parity with leading Chinese humanoids in force control, dexterity, or AI capabilities. Dobot’s competitive angle is commercial: distribution scale, existing customer relationships, affordable pricing heritage, and software compatibility with its installed cobot base. A factory that buys Atom for a pilot is probably already a Dobot customer. The initial market is existing customers expanding into humanoid applications rather than new customer acquisition against more capable competitors.
