I am Stella Qian. The UBTECH Walker S2 is the most industrially serious humanoid I have tested. It is also the most expensive. Here is the full picture.
What is the UBTECH Walker S2?
UBTECH is based in Shenzhen and has been building humanoid robots since 2012. The Walker S2 is their industrial-grade unit, deployed at Airbus facilities in China for aircraft assembly support tasks. It runs BrainNet, UBTECH’s proprietary software stack for multi-robot coordination. With 41 degrees of freedom, it is the most articulated humanoid in mass production today.
Specifications

- Speed: up to 1.2 m/s
- Battery: 3 hours
- Software: BrainNet (proprietary)
- Price: from $150,000
Advantages
Industrial build quality. The Walker S2 is built to aerospace tolerances. It does not wobble, does not drift, and the joints do not develop backlash over time the way cheaper units do. This matters when your robot is working next to a $50M aircraft fuselage.
41 DOF. No other humanoid in production has more degrees of freedom. This gives the Walker S2 a range of motion close to a human arm, which is required for tasks inside confined aircraft sections.
8 kg payload per arm. This is the highest payload of any humanoid I have tested. It can carry tools, panels, and components that would be too heavy for smaller units.
Aerospace validation. The Airbus deployment is a real qualification, not a press release. If your application has similarly strict requirements, this validation record matters.
Disadvantages
Price. At $150,000, the Walker S2 is ten times more expensive than the Unitree G1. This limits it to large enterprises with clear ROI cases.
Closed software. BrainNet is proprietary. You cannot fine-tune the AI model, contribute to a community, or customize behavior at the base level without UBTECH support. This creates vendor dependency.
Speed is low. 1.2 m/s is the slowest walking speed among the robots I tested. In applications where cycle time matters, this limits throughput.
Heavy and large. At 76 kg and 175 cm, the Walker S2 is difficult to transport and requires adequate floor load ratings. Not all facilities can accommodate it without structural checks.
My verdict
The Walker S2 is the right robot for large manufacturers with complex, high-precision tasks and the budget to match. Aerospace, automotive, and heavy industry are its home territory. If you need something cheaper or more flexible, look at the AgiBot G2 or the Unitree G1.
